The Nora Mitts

Nora is a pair of fingerless mitts with an intricate cable pattern, designed to add texture and character while staying elegant and easy to wear every day.

The cable pattern decorates the back of the hand, while the thumb gusset construction creates a comfortable shape that naturally follows the hand.

Nora is part of the Cliff collection and was designed to pair with the Ayla headband, which shares the same cable design. Worn together or separately, the two designs let you create coordinated accessories for chilly days.

Level and Techniques

Level: Intermediate

The Nora pattern is for knitters who are comfortable with knitting in the round and would like to take on a project with an interlaced cable pattern.

Techniques used:

• Knitting in the round
• Working cables
• Working left- and right-leaning increases to shape the thumb gusset
• Knitting 2 together (k2tog)
• Slip, knit, pass (skp)

The cable pattern is provided both written row by row and as a chart, so you can choose the method you’re most comfortable with.

Sizes

The Nora pattern comes in 4 sizes, to choose according to your hand circumference:

• XS: 17 cm / 6¾
• S: 18 cm / 7"
• M: 20 cm / 7¾"
• L: 21 cm / 8¼"

To choose your size, measure around the widest part of your hand, not including the thumb.

Gauge

27 sts and 30 rows = 10 cm (4") in stockinette stitch

The cable panel measures about 7 cm (2¾") wide over 24 stitches and 5 cm (2") high over 16 rows.

Approximate yardage:

• XS : XS: 120 m (131 yds) / 60 g

You’ll need 2 balls to make one pair of mitts.

Needles: 4 mm (US 6), using your preferred method for knitting in the round: circular needles, mini circulars or double-pointed needles (DPNs).
